Handwright Gallery and Framing is a
full-service frame shop and art gallery nestled in the heart of picturesque New
Canaan village. Its well-lit and welcoming space, hosts frequently rotating
exhibits of painting and sculpture by regionally and nationally noted
artists.
Period and contemporary mouldings, arranged on a series of
wall panels, complement the artwork. American and European styles ranging from
Louis XIII to American Impressionist, represent the finest hand carved 22kt and
finished custom frames available today.
Gallery paintings vary from small scale still-lifes executed
in traditional Dutch fashion, to large-scale impressionist style landscapes set
in Provence or Tuscany. Luminous Hudson River-genre paintings hang next to a
series of sepia conte crayon drawings also done in a 19 th century manner.
Handwright Gallery also boasts a varied selection of
sculptures in bronze and terracotta, with subjects ranging from figurative
abstract.
Antique hand-colored botanical prints, some dating from the
mid-17 th century, round out the gallery’s inventory.
Owner Betsy Jesup, a New Canaan native, has been in the
framing business for 30 years; she opened Handwright Gallery (Handwright is a
family name) eight years ago. Betsy enjoys a solid reputation throughout the
area for creative design skills and extensive knowledge of conservation
framing. She is available for home or office consultation and offers expert
picture hanging services by appointment.
Betsy and her staff take great pleasure in framing a child’s
first drawing, a photo collage, or perhaps a shadow box for a client’s
treasured mementoes.
They invite you to stop by for a visit on your next Saturday
stroll. |
